Surrey RCMP is investigating reports that shots were fired between two vehicles in Newton Sunday afternoon.

Officers found shell casings and two damaged vehicles after responding to 911 calls about 2:35 p.m.

Witnesses said a vehicle was being shot at by people in a second car while stopped on 72nd Avenue at 124th Street.

Surrey RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann said one vehicle was described as a dark-coloured SUV with Alberta licence plate K80469.  The second vehicle was described as a dark-coloured Honda.

“Both vehicles were last seen speeding off westbound on 72nd Avenue,” Schumann said.  He said two other vehicles in the area were damaged when they were struck by one of the vehicles involved in the shooting. No one was injured.

He said Surrey RCMP and Delta Police “made extensive patrols but were unable to locate the two suspect vehicles.”

Interestingly I heard that wanted man Shakiel Basra has been driving around in a vehicle with Alberta plates.

Schumann said “officers will be canvassing the area for any video surveillance and additional witnesses. So far local area hospitals have not seen any patients arrive with gunshot wounds.”

“Regardless of the motive for this incident, violent crime suppression continues to be the top priority for this detachment,” Schumann said. “We’re appealing to anyone who may know the suspects or have further information, to come forward.”
